Wheat purchase more than last year

Wheat procurement in the state has surpassed the previous year’s level. A total of 78.64 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of wheat has been procured by the state agencies till now against 74.25 lakh MT last year.

While stating this here on Sunday, a spokesman of Haryana Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department said while the state agencies have procured over 78.64 lakh MT, the traders have procured 441 metric tonnes.

Giving details of the wheat procured by the government agencies, he said over 31.92 lakh metric tonnes have been procured by Haryana State Co-operative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited (HAFED), whereas the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department has purchased over 23.28 lakh metric tonnes. He said the Food Corporation of India has purchased over 9.54 lakh MT and Haryana Warehousing Corporation has purchased over 13.88 lakh MT.

The spokesman said Sirsa district was leading in wheat arrival where over 10.27 lakh MT of the crop had been procured followed by Karnal district, which recorded over 8.54 lakh MT of wheat arrival. Similarly, over 7.12 lakh MT of wheat has been procured in Jind, over 6.82 lakh MT in Kaithal, over 6.41 lakh MT in Fatehabad, over 5.61 lakh MT in Kurukshetra and over 5.15 lakh MT in Hisar.

Illegal trading: Case against three firms 

Sonepat: A case of cheating was registered against Kharkhoda-based Shasher Trading Company, Ganesh Trading Company and Jinaal Trading Company. In his police complaint, Deepak, secretary, market committee, Kharkhoda, said that during checking on April 23, a team of the market committee, FCI and District Food and Supplies Controller found 500 quintals of wheat filled in FCI bags at a deserted place on the Rohtak road. He said the team recovered a weighing machine, and old and new bags for filling wheat stock, reportedly brought from other states. OC
