Three schoolchildren were among four persons killed when a school bus collided with a dumper near Achina Taal village in Charkhi Dadri district on Monday.

The school bus of BSVN School in Bigova village was on its way to drop children to their homes. When the bus reached near Achina Taal village, a dumper coming from the opposite direction collided with the bus.

The accident was so fierce that the front portion of the bus was damaged completely, while children were flung out of the bus.

Class-II student Rishabh, Class-XI student Sonu, nursery student Nikita and bus conductor Ramesh died in the mishap. In all, 18 persons — including drivers of the school bus and the dumper — were injured. Of them, 14 were referred to the PGIMS, Rohtak. The rest are under treatment at the Civil Hospital, Charkhi Dadri.

A motorist, Devender, took many of the injured students to the Civil Hospital.

Doctors at the Civil Hospital found it difficult to admit students as there were shortage of beds and other facilities. The parents of injured students pleaded with the staff to provide beds and emergency treatment to their children.

Former minister Satpal Sangwan, who visited the hospital, talked to Health Minister Anil Vij and asked for urgent arrangement of facilities. “The lack of facilities forced doctors to refer seriously injured children to the PGIMS,” he claimed.

Charkhi Dadri SDM Om Prakash also visited the hospital and assured injured children of help. He acknowledged before the media that the Civil Hospital faced shortage of doctors.

“The administration will submit a report to the state government about the staff shortage,” he said.
