Yamunanagar, June 4
The family members of Sunny, who had committed suicide, and other villagers held a demonstration at the gate of Jagadhri’s new grain market on Monday.
They demanded arrest of the headmistress of the government high school in Darwa village in connection with suicide by the school student.
Later, the protesters went to the Mini-Secretariat, where parents of the deceased handed over a memorandum to SP Rajesh Kalia.
Sunny’s mother Ajmer Kaur said five days had passed since the death of her son, but the police had not arrested the headmistress so far. She said the SP had given them an assurance on justice.
The police had booked the headmistress of the Darwa school on the charge of abetment to suicide after the Class X student committed suicide after being denied re-admission.
Sunny of Darwa village had passed the Class IX examination from the school this year. He was promoted to Class X, but his name was struck off as he did not come to school for some days.
Ajmer Kaur and Sunny went to the school in connection with re-admission on May 30. They met the headmistress for re-admission, but she refused to admit him.
Ajmer Kaur claimed that her son consumed some poisonous substance that evening due to insult and harassment by the headmistress. He died at the Trauma Centre, Yamunanagar, on May 31.
