Karnal, June 29
Days after Panipat businessman Rakesh Jagdish Kalra and his guards were held for firing in a pub in Andheri (Mumbai), the Mumbai police have verified that all weapons used in the celebratory firing in the pub were legal with valid licence.
Among the six seized weapons there, Kalra had three legal weapons, which are registered on his licence with all-India permit.
A team from Mumbai came to the Panipat DC office to verify the licences and found that all six weapons were legal. Confirming the update, Bharat Sheka Gaikwad, in charge Amboli police station, said, “We have verified the weapons from the Panipat administration and found these to be legal.”
He said that three weapons were registered with Kalra, while the remaining three were of his guards. He also confirmed that Kalra had been out on bail in this case.
Panipat DC Sumedha Kataria said the administration had extended all kinds of support to the Mumbai police and they had verified all weapons. “Three weapons were registered on the name of Kalra on his all-India permit licence, which is quite old,” she added.
However, Superintendent of Police Sangeeta Kalia had on Thursday, made it clear that the police would verify the licences and action would be initiated if any lapse was found.
Kalra, who is married, runs a dairy products and ghee manufacturing unit on the Sanoli road in Panipat. Around 2 am on Sunday he, along with two of his guards and two of his friends, went to the pub in Andheri to celebrate the birthday of his girlfriend. When the cake was being cut, Kalra allegedly fired five to six rounds.
They then left the venue and went to a hotel, from where they were arrested. Two vehicles and six weapons were seized from them. As per reports, Kalra claimed the weapons were licensed, but failed to show any document. Kalra’s family could not be contacted.
