The fear of losing claim for availing Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) looms over around 80,000 applicants across the state as they have failed to submit documents to prove their claims despite opportunities.
The State-Level Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (SLSMC) for the PMAY-U has decided to give the last chance to these applicants by issuing a final notice for submitting necessary documents.
It has directed all municipal corporations, councils and committees in the state to execute the decision in their area concerned, say sources. This decision was taken during a meeting of the SLSMC held under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary recently to review progress of the PMAY-U.
Officials present in the meeting observed that around 80,000 applicants did not submit complete documents even after being given ample opportunities, said the sources. After discussing the issue, the SLSMC decided to issue the notice for proving eligibility.
The sources maintained that applicants had now been asked to furnish the required documents to the municipal corporations, councils and committees concerned by May 8 to get the benefit under the PMAY-U, failing which their claims would be treated as cancelled.
“Each urban local body will deploy its staff for collecting the documents and update the list of applicants on a daily basis. It will then provide the list of eligible applicants to the consultancy agency for further action,” read a recent communique of the office of Director General, Urban Local Bodies, who is also Mission Director, State Urban Development Authority.
The sources pointed out that the PMAY-U had four key components — rehabilitation of slum-dwellers with participation of private developers using land as resource, promotion of affordable housing for weaker sections of society through credit-linked subsidy, affordable housing in partnership and subsidy for beneficiary-led individual house construction or enhancement.
Narender Saini, secretary Jhajjar Municipal Committee, said the demand survey to receive applications for the PMAY-U was conducted by a private consultancy company last year.
“Thereafter, the applicants were asked twice to submit documents to prove their eligibility for availing the scheme, but many failed to do so. Now, they have been given the last chance,” he said.
