The state government is set to amend the policy for providing government jobs to the next of kin of martyrs belonging to the armed forces, paramilitary forces and Haryana Police.
Under the proposed policy, married daughters of martyrs will be eligible for government jobs after the death of their father. Brothers and sisters of unmarried martyrs will also be eligible for government jobs.
Currently, son, daughter and wife of martyrs are eligible for government job. However, there is confusion on the eligibility of married daughter and brother and sister in case of unmarried martyrs.
The Cabinet decides on the eligibility of kin of martyrs such as married daughter and brother and sister on a case-to-case basis.
In the absence of a clear-cut policy on the eligibility of various blood relations of martyrs for government jobs, there is confusion over providing government jobs to the next of kin of martyrs.
“The government wants to create an institutional mechanism for providing government jobs to the next of kin of martyrs to give them due honour and respect. The government is committed to the welfare of next of kin of soldiers making the supreme sacrifice,” said Rajiv Jain, media adviser to Chief Minister.
In a related development, it was stated that 193 next of kin of martyrs had been given government jobs by the state government since October 26, 2016.
These included 162 next of kin of defence personnel, 30 next of kin of paramilitary personnel and one next of kin of Haryana Police personnel.
