Khattar inaugurates first phase of Karnal bus stand

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurated the first phase of Karnal bus stand near Baldi bypass here on Monday. The first phase of the bus stand is spread over 4.5 acres of the total 32 acres 22 kanal sanctioned for the project. It has been built at a cost of Rs 13 crore.

“The existing bus stand is spread over 8.13 acres and causes traffic congestion in the city. The new bus stand is spacious and it will have all modern facilities. The existing bus stand will be used for city buses and developed as an open market under the Smart City project. The existing workshop will continue to function from the same venue till the new one is constructed,” the CM said.

The second phase of the bus stand would be constructed on 13.5 acres. The workshop would be built on PPP mode over 5.5 acres. It will contain shopping malls, e-ticket counters, e-toilets, parking, etc. The bus stand will also have Driving Training and Research Institute, which will be built on 9.5 acres.

Transport Minister Krishan Lal Panwar, who accompanied the CM, said 650 new buses would be added to the existing fleet of Haryana Roadways buses, including 150 mini-buses, in 2018-19. In addition, 150 buses, including Volvo, will be started to facilitate the passengers. 40 buses have been fabricated on pilot basis. Panwar also announced the stay of Volvo buses in Karnal.

The CM also announced a survey on number of passengers availing Volvo bus service. Karnal MP Ashwini Chopra also appreciated the project. Regarding wheat procurement, the CM said there was no ban on procurement of wheat, adding wheat from outside Haryana would be bought only when it had been bought from the farmers of the state. He also said that MC elections would be held on time.

The CM said open gyms would be set up in 100 parks across the state. He said 401 vyayamshalas, of which 12 were in Karnal, would be inaugurated on May 5. The CM also said that doctors would soon be recruited at Kalpana Chawla Medical College.
