Almost 13 years after SC Sapra, a government college teacher in Gurugram, was charge with indulging in private tuition and sexual harassment of a student, the government has dismissed him from service.
“In view of the grave charges of sexual misconduct and imparting private tuition having been fully proved, it will accordingly be in the interest of justice to dismiss him from government service with immediate effect,” read an order of Dheera Khandelwal, Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education.
On December 23, 2005, a case was registered against Sapra, then assistant professor in commerce at Dronacharya Government College, Gurugram, for sexually harassing a student who used take tuition from him.
Sapra was indicted in the preliminary inquiry conducted by the Education Department. The department appointed RK Taneja, former IAS officer, to conduct a regular departmental inquiry against the professor.
After these inquiries found him guilty, the Education Minister accorded approval for his dismissal from service. Apprehending imposition of punishment, Sapra approached the HC, which stayed further action in the matter.
On Thursday, a Division Bench of the HC set aside the order of the single Judge and permitted the state to proceed in the matter as per law. Following the go-ahead, the Education Department issued orders for Sapra’s dismissal.
