2 held for selling tobacco to minors

Ambala, May 31

A joint team of the District Child Welfare Committee, Child Line and District Children Protection Unit on Monday nabbed two shopkeepers on the charge of selling tobacco to two minor girls in the Jandli area of Ambala City. The committee received a complaint that a man used to beat up his stepdaughters, aged 12 and nine years, following which the team rescued the girls and questioned their stepfather. The man told the team that his stepdaughters used to chew tobacco. He told them that the girls used to buy tobacco from their pocket money. The team gave the girls Rs 50 and asked them to buy tobacco. After the girls bought tobacco pouches, the team raided the shop and recovered the note from the shopkeeper.— TNS
