Ambala: The police have booked two persons of Yamunanagar for allegedly duping a man of Rs 36 lakh on the pretext of allotting him a gas agency. Pawan Kumar of Barara, alleged that two persons promised to allot him a gas agency for which he gave Rs 36 lakh. But, neither was he allotted a gas agency nor was the money. TNS

Woman ends life; in-laws booked 

Sonepat: A woman committed suicide at her in-law’s house in Shyamabad village of the district on Tuesday night. Lalit stated that his sister Suman, mother of a seven-year-old boy, got married to Rajiv in 2010.  Investigation Officer Rajesh Kumar said the victim had left behind a suicide note in which she had levelled serious allegations against her in-laws. HSPCB seals 15 screening plants

Yamunanagar: A team of the HSPCB has sealed 15 screening plants in Bilaspur area of the district for violating pollution norms. Rajinder Sharma, regional officer, HSPCB, said the screening plants were sealed on Thursday. He said the owners of the screening plants were violating the Water and Air Prevention and Control of Pollution Acts. TNS

UHBVN to pay Rs 5,000 for wrong bill 

Ambala: The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has awarded compensation of Rs 5,000 to a complainant and held Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) Limited guilty of deficient service after it sent wrong bill to a consumer. As per reports, complainant Anil Kumar had alleged that the UHBVN failed to rectify wrong electricity bill of Rs 990 issued to him for the period December 15, 2016 to February 15, 2017. During audit it was found that the power utility had not updated the complainant’s account after the bill was paid. The forum said the UHBVN caused unnecessary harassment to the complainant by failing to correct the power bill. TNS

Sessions judge inspects jail

Yamunanagar: District and Sessions Judge Bimlesh Tanwar visited the district jail at Jagadhri on Thursday. She was accompanied by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Gagandeep Mittal, Chief Judicial Magistrate Sunil Jindal and District Legal Services Authority Secretary Arvind Kumar. The Sessions Judge inspected the jail and visited the kitchen. She also interacted with inmates. Dr Indu Kapoor examined eyes of women inmates and distributed free medicines and spectacles. TNS

4 illegal colonies razed in Gurugram

Gurugram: The Department of Town and Country Planning conducted a demolition drive amidst protests in the Bhondsi area on Thursday. Officials demolished four illegal colonies in Naya Gaon and Bhondsi villages and recommended  FIR against erring property owners. The colonies had mushroomed as an extension of previously demolished illegal colonies. Youth shot dead in Bahadurgarh

Jhajjar: A youth was shot dead by two assailants in Quilla Mohalla of Bahadurgarh town in the district on Thursday. The assailants came on a motorcycle and opened fire at Vikas, who was standing near a medical store in the locality. He was rushed to Trauma Centre, where he succumbed to his injuries. Chaman Lal, a police spokesman, said a case had been registered against Aasif and another person. Sources said enmity could be the reason behind the murder. TNS

Man arrested for molesting 5-yr-old 

Panipat: A 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly molesting a five-year-old girl here on Wednesday. In her complaint to the police, the victim’s mother said her daughter was playing in a street outside her house and, after a while, she went missing. “We started searching for her. When we reached Green Park, we found Haider Ali sexually assaulting my daughter,” she alleged. The police said Haider Ali was booked under Section 365 of the IPC and Section 10 of the POCSO Act. TNS

HAU signs pact with US varsity 

Hisar: Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) and Michigan State University (MSU), US, signed an MoU in the presence of the Chancellor and Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki at Raj Bhawan in Chandigarh on Thursday. The MoU was signed for a Rs 24.83-crore project entitled “Strengthening institutional capacity to produce skilled professional for market driven agriculture” under the institutional development plan of the National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP).
