A carpenter was stabbed to death here in New Model Town Colony on Thursday following a dispute over money. A man has been arrested in connection with the murder.
The deceased was identified as Rajiv (28), a native of Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh. He was living in New Model Town on a rented accommodation. He was working in a furniture showroom here.
Rajiv’s landlord Deepak Kumar, in his police complaint, said: “Another of my tenant Ravinder (45) called me on Thursday night. He claimed that his daughter and Rajiv had illicit relationship and he had caught them in a compromising situation.”
“When I went to Rajiv’s accommodation, I found his body lying near a bathroom in a pool of blood, and Ravinder holding a knife and a stick,” Deepak added.
Rajiv’s uncle Rakesh Kumar said he received a call around 1.30 pm that Rajiv had been killed. He refuted the allegation of Rajiv’s illicit relationship. “It is to mislead the police. The reason behind the murder is money.”
Rajiv had lent Rs 40,000 to Ravinder in January for 10 days, but Ravinder had failed to return the amount, Rakesh alleged.
Inspector Vikas Chahl said, “On Deepak’s statement, Ravinder has been booked on the charge of murdering Rajiv. The accused will be produced in court on Saturday.”
