Labourer dies after soil caves in

Ambala, June 1

A labourer died on Friday when a heap of soil caved in on him while he was laying a sewer pipeline in the main market near a gurdwara in Barara .

It is alleged that Arif (32) of Meerut remained trapped for nearly an hour while his co-workers were away for Friday prayers. When they returned, they found the soil had caved in with Arif missing. A rescue operation was launched to extricate Arif. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition where he died.

Barara SHO said, “The worker was laying the pipe when the soil caved in from one side. He was rescued with the help of a JCB machine and taken to MM Hospital, Mullana, where he died.”
