Karnal, May 31
Members of the Muslim community in Newal village of Karnal were allegedly stopped from offering prayers by some residents on Wednesday night.
They claimed that they were attacked and the sound system damaged. The police was deployed in the village as a precautionary measure and the situation was under control, the authorities said.
The incident took place around 9.15 pm on Wednesday when some members of the Muslim community were offering prayers.
Naeem Khan, a local resident, said some youths entered the mosque when they were offering prayers. He claimed that when they opposed the intrusion, they were thrashed and stopped from praying.
"We informed the sarpanch and the police. The police did not rush to the village, after which we went to the Kunjpura police station," he said.
Raj Kumar Ranga, Kunjpura SHO, said the police went to the village after getting information, but residents reached the police station before their arrival in the village. "A case was registered against six persons," he added.
Surinder Singh Bhoria, Superintendent of Police, said the situation was under control.
A police team led by the Kunjpura SHO was keeping vigil in the village, he said. Nobody would be allowed to take the law into their hands, he asserted.
