Rohtak, June 5
Several local private hospitals, clinics and nursing homes remained closed on Tuesday to protest the alleged attack on a private hospital and physical assault on doctors on Monday.
The call for the strike was given by the local chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA).
A delegation of private doctors, led by IMA’s local unit president Dr Devender Sangwan, met the SP and apprised him of the situation. The SP assured them of taking appropriate legal action.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been lodged against Hemant Bakshi, a local Punjabi leader-cum-social activist, under Sections 147, 149, 452, 323 and 341 of the IPC and (3) of the Haryana Medical Act, 2009, on the basis of a complaint lodged by the IMA’s local unit president.
Family members and supporters of a child, who had died at a local private hospital around a month ago, staged a protest in front of the hospital and blocked the road at Chhotu Ram Chowk on Monday.
The owner of the hospital and the Indian Medical Association (IMA) alleged that the protesters also ransacked the hospital and assaulted the staff. However, the family of the deceased child refuted the allegations.
Rohit, a resident of Dhobi Mohalla, had admitted his son to the hospital on April 30. The child reportedly died during the treatment and his family accused the doctors concerned and the staff of negligence.
They staged a protest demonstration yesterday, alleging that no action had been taken against the accused.
The police officials had a tough time convincing the protesters to lift the blockade.
On the other hand, Dr Sangwan maintained that the matter of the child’s death was still under investigation and the family and its supporters had no right to take the law into their own hands.
