Around 26 cows have died while more than 15 have taken seriously ill at Khojkipur village in the Bapoli area of the district due to pesticide poisoning. A team of veterinary doctors was at the spot on Saturday to treat the ill cows. Later the police along with villagers buried the carcasses of the cows near the Yamuna banks.
According to information, Raghunath Malik, a resident of Rajasthan, had sent his employee Kala Ram along with around 600 cows to Haryana in search of fodder and water. Kala Ram stayed at Khojkipur village and after grazing the cows drank water at the fields. They slept in the fields there. As they wake up in the morning, they found some cows dead while others were struggling for life.
A team of veterinary doctors comprising Dr Neeraj Verma, Dr LR Kaushik and Dr PK Rai started treating the cows. Members of the Rashtriya Gau Rakashak Vahini Subhash and Kuldeep Rohilla along with scores of villagers also arrived there. The doctors tried to save the cows but 26 of them died till the evening while around 15 are stated to be seriously ill.
Dr Neeraj Verma said, “According to the symptoms visible and the history told to us, cows seem to have died of pesticide poisoning. It seems that after grazing grass, the cows drank water in the fields around 24 hours ago. The water in the paddy fields could be poisonous as farmers spray strong pesticides to save their crops”.
DSP Naresh Ahlawat said the carcasses of the cows had been buried near the Yamuna banks with the help of Gau Rakshak and villagers.
