“We will not be a government of announcements but that of action. The day the Congress comes to power, we will waive loans taken by farmers. We will also slash the state levies on diesel by 50 per cent, making it the cheapest in the country and thereby benefiting patients, transporters and industrialists,” said former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda while launching the third phase of the Jankranti Yatra from Punhana in Mewat on Saturday.
He claimed that the diesel price was the lowest in Haryana as the Value Added Tax (VAT) on it was 8.24%, which the present BJP government had hiked to 17.50 per cent. Amid cheering, Hooda announced that the Congress would increase the old-age pension to Rs 3,000 and the party would waive loans taken by farmers and the poor, like they had done in the past.
Hooda claimed that the Congress would make a clean sweep in the forthcoming elections. “It is raining and windy and traffic has come to halt. But the number of people who have come here shows that the state yearns for change and we are the change that we want. The BJP government is either busy announcing fantasies or inaugurating projects started by the Congress government. People, especially of Mewat, have realised this and will support us,” he added.
He said that the entire state was suffering because of the policies of the state government. He also accused the INLD of misleading people through their Jail Bharo Andolan.
“Nakli ladai, nakli giraftari, nakli rehai (Look at the false fight between the BJP and the INLD, false arrests and false releases). Not even one of them has stayed in jail for more than an hour. They are hidden supporters of the BJP. The INLD supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi and they even supported the BJP candidate in the presidential elections. If you want to ensure that the BJP government is defeated, you will also have to defeat the INLD,” Hooda said amid cheers from the massive crowd.
He also accused Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar of turning a blind eye to rising crime in the state.
