Gurugram, April 29
The Gurugram police nabbed 11 bookies from a house in Sohna village in the district late Friday night while they were managing bets on the ongoing IPL matches.
They recovered an LED TV, 10 mobile phones and more than Rs 51,000 while the house owner, who is the key accused, managed to flee. According to the city police, they received a tip off about a big betting racket being operated from a lonely house in Sohna village. A team headed by SHO Ram Kumar raided the house and caught 11 men red handed while they were placing and managing bets on phones and recording them in a register. Those arrested are Rahul, Arshad, Maksood, Aslam, Salmuddin, Talha, Ashu, Raiees, Javed, Irshad and Jafruddin, all residents of Sohna and its adjoining villages. The house owner, Nabi, believed to be the kingpin of the racket, managed to escape.
On a complaint by Inspector Ram Kumar, an FIR has been registered against 12 persons under Sections 13, 3 and 67 of the Gambling Act at Sohna city police station. All accused were on Saturday produced in court that granted them bail. — TNS
