Gurugram, April 30

Right-wing organisations under the banner of recently launched Sanyukt Hindu Sangharash Samiti held a protest march here on Monday, demanding ban on offering ‘namaz’ in grounds without permission.

On April 20, a group of men disrupted ‘namaz’ in Wazirabad village with chants of “Jai Sri Ram” and “Radhey Radhey”. A video of the incident had gone viral and six youths were arrested later in this connection.

Though the accused were released on bail on Sunday, the samiti demanded that a case against them was withdrawn and that religion was not used to “encroach” on vacant plots in the city.

Marching from Kamla Nehru Park to the DC’s office, about 100 members of the Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Kranti Dal handed over a memorandum of demands to the DC.

Mahaveer Bhardwaj, who led the protest march, said: “We are not against any religion or the right to pray. There are designated places for everything. Using open grounds and areas for a gathering of hundreds of people every week without permission is illegal and an attempt to encroach on vacant places. Without permission, no prayer meetings should be allowed.”

People were raising a hue and cry over chants of “Jai Shri Ram”, but nobody was talking about “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans Muslims raise when asked to vacate the ground or get permission to use it, he said.

“Not just Wazirabad, we will not allow any gathering anywhere in the city without permission. It is the duty of the authorities to safeguard open spaces and roads. We will ensure that open spaces are not put to unauthorised use,” Bhardwaj added.
