Chandigarh, May 30
Just about a week after the Haryana Police were censured for their failure to apply brakes on the menace of helmet-less driving, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday directed it to place before the Bench supporting evidence such as photographs, along with five challans issued in each district.
With this, the Bench made clear its intent to summon offenders.
The Bench of Acting Chief Justice Ajay Kumar Mittal and Justice Tejinder Singh Dhindsa also directed the police to place before it a fresh status report on its drive to check traffic violations for a month from June 1.
The police also found itself at the receiving end during the course of hearing, after amicus curiae or the friend of the court Namit Kumar told the Bench that affidavits were not filed with responsibility.
He said the total number of challans for traffic violations in Narnaul was mentioned as 630 in a previous status report. Out of that, 626 challans were for violating rules related zebra crossing.
Kumar added there were no zebra crossings in the area. To support his contentions, Kumar also placed before the Bench photographs.
