Frequent power outages during peak summer season are affecting normal life in various parts of the district. As power supply falls short of demand, residents are facing a hard time putting up with power cuts lasting over several hours.
“We hardly get power for 10 to 12 hours a day, which affects our daily chores. The invertors have become a necessity,” said Rajender of Bhainsrawali village
Claiming that power supply was inadequate, Subhash Dagar of Sagarpur village said people had to bear the brunt of searing heat due to frequent power cuts.
Satvir Dagar of Jharsentli village said there was hardly any improvement in power supply, which continued to be unreliable despite claims by officials concerned.
Complaints of erratic power supply have surfaced from Sahupura, Malerna, Mohna, Digh Chhainsa Sotai and Prahaldpur Majra Digh villages of the district.
Urban areas too have been affected by power shortage.
Rajesh Das of Parvatiya Colony said that four to five-hour cut was common, which also affected the water supply. “Residents are buying water from private water suppliers,” he said.
Power shortage is also affecting industries. Claiming that daily power supply was 20 percent short of demand, Col S Kapoor (retd), Director, Faridabad Industries Association (FIA), said the diesel bill of entrepreneurs had risen dramatically.
“The claims of improvement in supply are false,” said Ramneek Prabhakar, General Secretary, Manufacturers Association Faridabad (MAF), adding that four-hour power cut had become a routine.
However, PK Chauhan, Superintending Engineer, DHBVN, claimed that power supply was robust and the duration of the cuts was not more than one to two hours daily.
“We supplied power for 22 hours and 51 minutes on Tuesday,” he said adding that a record 1.73 crore units were supplied in the district yesterday. Power outages could be due to technical faults, he said.
