Rs 70 crore transactions hit in Karnal

Karnal, May 30

Customers were harassed as more than 500 bank officials of the district went on a two-day bank strike on Wednesday. Banking transactions worth 70 crore were affected on the first day of the strike, said a bank official. The district has 307 branches of 33 banks.

Protesting employees led by Lalit Arora, state general secretary, All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC), Haryana, staged a dharna in front of Punjab National Bank in Sector 12 here. He said resentment prevailed among bank staff and officials on account of delay in wage revision, due since November 1, 2017.

He said that Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) offered a meager hike of 2 per cent only, which was rejected by the association. The bank officials are reportedly demanding pay parity with the Union Government Grade A officials as both had the same pay scale in 1979 after the implementation of the Pillai Committee report. — TNS
