Five members of a family, including three women, were killed when the car they were travelling in collided with a truck near Samanabahu village on the NH 44 in the district on Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Rajwant Kaur (50), her son Happy Singh (20), residents of Dariyapur village in Bilaspur area of Yamunanagar district, her daughter Manvinder Kaur (23) and Manvinder’s husband Harvinder Singh (25), residents of Khanpur in Kurukshetra district, and Rajwant Kaur’s sister Jaswinder Kaur (38), a resident of Derabassi in Punjab. The victims were going to Sambhi village in Karnal district to meet their relatives, said Vikrant Singh, SHO, Butana police station.
When the car reached near Samanabahu village, another vehicle coming from behind hit it from side due to which the car hit a mini-tempo. The car and the mini-tempo jumped the divider, while a truck coming from the opposite side hit the car, said the SHO.
The car was completely damaged. Two victims, who were trapped on the front seats of the car, were later pulled out with the help of a crane.
“We have registered a case against truck and mini-tempo drivers,” he added.
