The appointment of three assistant professors to Haryana Institute of Rural Development (HIRD) at Nilokheri in the district has come under the scanner of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The High Court has issued notice to the state government for September 21 to present it view on a writ petition filed by an aspirant from Kurukshetra.

The HC also directed the state government that the appointments would depend on the outcome of the court’s decision.

In a petition filed the HC, Naresh Bhardwaj, who failed to apply for the post due to qualification criteria, alleged that the officiating HIRD Director had changed the qualification criteria for the benefit of his known candidates.

However, officiating Director Attar Singh refuted the allegations and said that they had been following the directions of the High Court in these appointments. He said that the qualification criteria for these posts had been approved by a competent authority of the institute.

Bhardwaj alleged that the institute advertised three posts of assistant professor in rural infrastructure and sustainable development, democratic decentralisation and planning and rural management and governance on February 3, 2018.

He further stated that the candidate should have a postgraduate degree with 55 per cent marks or its equivalent in rural development, economics, civil engineering, computer engineering, geography and geology for the post of assistant professor in rural infrastructure and sustainable development, but no university in the state offers a postgraduate course in rural infrastructure and sustainable development, but it was covered in the postgraduate degree of environmental sciences, so his degree should be considered for the post.
