The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ambala, has awarded a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to a victim of sexual assault under the Haryana Victim Compensation Scheme, 2013.
Danish Gupta, CJM)-cum-Secretary, DLSA, Ambala, said: “A case was registered on September 15, 2016, at Parao police station. The accused used to sexually assault her minor daughter. The accused was convicted in November 2017 and was sent to jail for six years. Besides this, a fine of Rs 60,000 was also slapped on him.”
He said the case was referred to the DLSA and it had decided to provide a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the victim under the Victim Compensation Scheme. Since the victim was a minor, the compensation amount would be provided in the form of fixed deposit.
“The state government has enacted the Victim Compensation Scheme 2013 for providing financial help to the victim or dependants, who suffer loss or injury as a result of the crime and required rehabilitation,” he said. — TNS
