Sonepat, June 30
The body of Surabhi Gupta, flight engineer, who along with three other aircrew members was killed in a private plane crash in Mumbai on Thursday, was consigned to flames here on Saturday. Her husband Brijesh Gupta, a pilot by profession, lit the pyre.
Members of her family and town residents were present at her in-laws house as well as at the cremation ground to pay homage to the departed soul.
Women and Child Development Minister Kavita Jain also reached their residence to convey her condolences on Surabhi’s untimely death. It is a great loss to the family, she said.
Surabhi’s maternal uncle Surender said that her body was very badly burnt in the air crash and she could be identified from her earrings, as there were only two women in the ill-fated plane.
Surabhi’s father, Surya Pratap Gupta, who came to Sonepat from Badayun in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday evening, said that she did aeronautical engineering from Mumbai and was honoured by the Bihar Government as well as the Maharashtra Government two days before the fatal incident.
